Phish were among the first musical acts to use the internet to grow their fanbase, with fans using file-sharing websites like etree and BitTorrent to share concerts. Phish's popularity grew in the 1990s as a result of fans sharing concert recordings that had been taped by audience members and distributed online for free.
Phish was dubbed "the most important band of the '90s" by Rolling Stone in 1998. Other jam band acts, such as Umphrey's McGee and the Disco Biscuits, have acknowledged Phish as an influence.] Other musicians, such as Adam Levine and James Valentine of Maroon 5, Ed O'Brien of Radiohead, Brandon Boyd of Incubus, and reggae artist Matisyahu, have also cited Phish as an influence.

Following their yearly New Year's Run at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which sold a total of 58,060 tickets between December 28 and December 31, grossing $7.8 million, according to reports submitted to Pollstar's Boxoffice, Phish recently returned from their annual trek to Cancun, Mexico's Moon Palace Resort for four nights of "Phish: Riviera Maya." The shows marked their first dates in 2024. Between August 31 and September 3, the band's most recent performance at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, brought in $8.4 million with a total of 92,405 in ticket sales.

Jason Colton, Coral Capshaw, and Patrick Jordan of Red Light Management are Phish's representatives. Mike Greisch of Wasserman Music is in charge of booking them.
