Phish were among the first musical acts to use the internet to grow their fanbase, with fans using file-sharing websites like etree and BitTorrent to share concerts. Phish's popularity grew in the 1990s as a result of fans sharing concert recordings that had been taped by audience members and distributed online for free.

Phish concerts usually consist of two sets separated by an intermission. Songs frequently lead into one another during performances, or create improvisational jams that can go for up to ten minutes, depending on the song. A number of frequently performed songs from Phish's repertoire are from albums released in the 1990s or earlier, and include "Possum," "Mike's Song," "I Am Hydrogen," "Weekapaug Groove," "Harry Hood," "Runaway Jim," "Suzy Greenberg," "AC/DC Bag," and "The Lizards." Phish has performed these songs live more than 300 times.

The summer tour of Phish in 2024 has been confirmed. Beginning on July 19 and lasting three nights, the Vermont Quartet will launch their inaugural tour at Mansfield, Massachusetts's Xfinity Center, a beloved venue since it was first called Great Woods. From there, the group will stop at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT (7/23–24), the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI (7/26-28), the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, IN (8/2-4), the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI (8/6-7), and the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY (8/9–11). Phish's first festival since 2015, Mondegreen, is scheduled to take place at The Woodlands in Dover, DE from August 15–18, and will mark the conclusion of the tour. Phish will be performing in Delaware for the first time since 1994.) The group will soon perform at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, where they usually make an annual appearance.

Phish recently returned from their yearly journey to Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico, for four nights of "Phish: Riviera Maya." These performances were the band's first dates in 2024, following their yearly New Year's Run at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which, according to reports provided to Pollstar's Boxoffice, sold 58,060 tickets between December 28 and December 31 and brought in $7.8 million. The band last performed at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, from August 31 to September 3. The gigs brought in $8.4 million in revenue with a total of 92,405 tickets sold.
